All Ireland Schools Quiz

This week the Irish League of Credit Unions held the 25th annual All Ireland Schools with Quiz master - RTE’s Marty Whelan at the RDS in Dublin. 100 teams of 4 primary school children took part in the finals with St Patricks National School representing Palmerstown Credit Union, Dublin and Bunscoil McAuley Ris representing Callan Credit Union in Kilkenny emerged victorious.

The Quiz is a hugely popular event with over 25,000 school children under the age of 13 taking part in over 300 venues in rural & urban communities across the island of Ireland. The Quiz consists of two ‘knock out’ stages which culminates in a national final which is held in the RDS in early April each year. The questions for the quiz are put together by primary school teachers and cover subjects like sport, geography, history and current affairs.

The Quiz is divided into two sections: Competition A for children up to 11 years and Competition B for children between 11 and 13 years.  Local quiz winners go through to the regional final and the regional winners and runners-up compete for the national titles in April every year.  Local winners receive prizes from their local Credit Union and regional winners and runners-up also receive prizes and their schools receive cheques. The national winner and runner-up receive a silver salver, significant personal prizes and their schools are each awarded a substantial cheque. Every finalist receives a special certificate marking their achievement.

For the past 25 years, the quiz has been hugely popular throughout the country.  We look forward to seeing our young qualifiers in the RDS next April, for what promises to be an exciting final and we wish everyone who takes part in the local and regional qualifiers the very best of luck.
